A 13-year old teen Momiji Nishiya won Olympic gold during the women’s Street skateboarding final on the third day of the Tokyo Olympic Games held on 26th July. Momiji created history as Japan’s youngest Olympic champion. The skateboard competition was divided into two 45-second runs and single tricks. Momiji Nishiya showed her skills of skating while riding the rails, ledge, and ramp at the Ariake Urban Sports Park. She won the Gold medal in the competition. The silver medal was won by 13 years of Brazil’s Rayssa Leal from Brazil. The bronze medal went to 16-years old Funa Nakayama. Momiji Nishiya was born on 30th August 2007 in Japan. She is a Japanese skateboarder and Olympian.

She participated in the 2020 Summer Olympics in the Women’s street competition where she won the first-ever gold medal in the event. She is 13-years old and has become the youngest person ever to win a gold medal for Japan. She participated in 2019 in Summer X Games in the women’s Street event where she scored 90.00 and won a silver medal.

Nishiya also ranked 5th in the Olympic World Skateboarding ranking. She qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics. She competed in the women’s Street competition and scored 15.26 and also won the gold medal.

At the age of 13 years and 330 days, she registered the record of becoming the youngest Olympic gold medalist for Japan and the third-youngest gold medalist in Olympic history. She won the Gold medal in the competition. The silver medal was won by 13 years of Brazil’s Rayssa Leal from Brazil. The bronze medal went to 16-years old Funa Nakayama.
