A 26-years old boy Mahfooz Ilahi Hajam has successfully scaled Mount Everest. His resident is at Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir and civilian instructor at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS) in Aru (Pahalgam). The tour was led by Colonel LS Thapa, who is an ave climber and scaled Mount Everest twice. Colonel Thapa is currently appointed as a principal at JIMWS Pahalgam. Mahfooz’s father is a barber and he is from a middle-class family from the Kujjar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Mahfooz said that he has started the journey with his team on 1st June and got stuck for 10 days due to heavy winds on Mount Everest. He said it was a tough adventure but he is happy that he has chosen this adventure sport.

He said that he has started at 06:20 am on 1st June. This is the highest peak in the work which is 8,849 meters. Mount Everest is the eath’s highest mountain above sea level which is located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. It fascinated many climbers and experienced mountaineers. Everest presents danger such as altitude sickness, wind, and weather as well as significant hazards from rockslide and the Khumbu Icefall. The first person who recorded his efforts to reach Everest was a British mountaineer. After Nepal prohibited the entry of foreigners, the British made several attempts on the North ridge route from the Tibetan side.

In 1953, they started taking the southeast ridge route. The Chinese mountaineering team of Wang Fuzhou, Qu Yinhua, and Gonpo will be the first reported the peak from the North ridge on 25th May 1960. As of 2019, over 300 people have died on Everest.
