Senior Congress leader and former chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit died on July 20, Saturday. She has said goodbye to the world at the age of 81 after severing as the CM of Delhi three times. She was admitted to a private hospital in Delhi, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute on Friday. She was in a critical condition when she was admitted to the hospital due to cardiac arrhythmia, irregular heart-beat. The attending doctors put her on a ventilator as she had irregular heartbeats.
For those who aren’t aware, Dikshit had heart surgery last year in France. According to the recent media reports, she was under the supervision of Dr. Seth at Fortis Escorts hospital for the last few years. Back in November 2012, the Congress leader had undergone angioplasty to open the blocked arteries and restore blood flow to her heart muscle. In addition, she also had an infection some time ago.
Dikshit had played a major role when it comes to three-term Congress government in the capital of the nation. She had defeated BJP for the consecutive terms, but Aam Aadmi Party national convener and the chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal defeated her in New Delhi constituency.
Kejriwal showed his condolence over Dikshit’s death, saying, “Just now got to know about the extremely terrible news about the passing away of Mrs. Sheila Dikshit ji. It is a huge loss for Delhi and her contribution will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to her family members. May her soul rest in peace.”

BJP Delhi President and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, “I had met her recently, it is a big shock. I remember how she welcomed me like a mother. Delhi will miss her. May God give her family and her closed ones the strength to bear this loss.” While Congress leader Ajay Maken tweeted, “Hard to believe-My mentor and a mother like figure to me #SheilaDikshit ji is no more. Delhi can never forget her contribution.” He added, “I will always thankfully remember the way she groomed me as a young politician and granted me valuable learning experience under her guidance! Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Sheila Dikshit Ji. Blessed with a warm and affable personality, she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi’s development. Condolences to her family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
The hospital said in a statement, “Mrs. Sheila Dixit was brought in the morning of July 20 to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Okhla, in a critical condition with a cardiac arrest,” News 18 reported. The statement continued, “A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr. Ashok Seth, chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilized temporarily. However, she had another cardiac arrest, and despite all the resuscitative efforts, passed away at 3:55 pm on July 20.”
