The basketball community is mourning the passing of the popular USC women’s basketball commit who is known as Aaliyah Gayles. Yes, the USC women’s basketball commit was shot and killed multiple times while attending a house party in North Las Vegas over the weekend and the incident took place at the scene. The news was confirmed by the school to ESPN. According to the police reports, the 18-years-old was one of the four people who were shot after a fight broke out inside the home in Las Vegas. USC Basketball Commit Aaliyah

Gayles suffered from two emergency surgeries to repair her injuries. All four injured were admitted to the hospital after the incident but are expected to survive following the horrific incident. Gayles’s father, Dwight said,” I know there is some that will say it’s my fault and I take full responsibility for it but please please keep my baby girl in your prayers Las Vegas. I will give everyone that supports Aaliyah an update but she’s ok she go make it like always thank you all, true warrior”. The incident took place on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Gayles underwent two emergency surgeries and the reports says that she was not shot in the head or torso.

Who Was Aaliyah Gayles?

Well, Aaliyah Gayles originally committed to the Trojans but later, she decommitted after the former head coach named Mark Trakh announced his retirement. Well, Gayles also recommitted to USC and also the new head coach Lindsay Gottlieb last year in August.


Lindsay Gottlieb also talked to ESPN and told in a statement,” Gayles is one of the strongest, most resilient young people I have ever known. I have no doubt she will continue to face this unfathomable situation with courage and resolve. We will continue to support her and her parents in every way that we possibly can”.

Gayles was an eighth-ranked guard in ESPN’s 2022 class and has an average of 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 3.3 assists in 2021-22. She began her career as a point guard for the Las Vegas-based Spring Valley High School and one of the top recruits in the nation and recently played in the Jordan Brand Classic and McDonald’s All-American Game. Her sudden death made his loved ones and fans devastated. Currently, the entire Gayles family is going through a difficult time and requested privacy.
