New molecule ‘itaconate’ acts as powerful turn off switch for Macrophages

New molecule 'itaconate, turn off switch Macrophages,

A new study said that they have discovered a new process that can act as a switch to off the inflammation occurring in the body. Let me tell you in simple words that what is inflammation exactly. Inflammation is a term given when the body encounters a foreign antigen then it raises its temperature in order to fight the antigen and the MACROPHAGES are merely responsible for that.

New molecule 'itaconate' , macrophages, health

Macrophages are the big eaters and also part of immune cells. It undergoes phagocytosis and engulfs the foreign particle or the remains of the cells which are not needed. Immature Cell is called the monocyte and then it becomes Macrophage and attains maturity.

Researchers have found that if macrophages can be coaxed and then a biochemical is formed named itaconate. Itaconate is glucose-derived molecule and this molecule is responsible for carrying the function of turning off the inflammation. It can be further used.

Luke O’Neill described “It is well known that macrophages cause inflammation, but we have just found that they can be coaxed to make a biochemical called itaconate,”.  He further added “This functions as an important break, or off-switch, on the macrophage, cooling the heat of inflammation in a process never before described,”

This study has further linked to development and research of the inflammatory and infectious diseases. Now the researchers are thinking to utilize this for making brand new medicines which will act as anti-inflammatory medicines. “This functions as an important break, or off-switch, on the macrophage, cooling the heat of inflammation in a process never before described,” said Evanna Mills. “This functions as an important break, or off-switch, on the macrophage, cooling the heat of inflammation in a process never before described,” Let us see how this discovery is going to help in the advancement of the medicines.
