A Junior World Championship Bronze medalist, Jhilli Dalabehera won the gold medal in the 45kg category in the Asian Weightlifting Championship on Sunday. She lifted 69kg in the grab and followed that up by 88kg in a total of157kg in all three categories of the Gold Level Olympics quality. She won the silver medal in 2019 where she lifted 71 kg and 91 kg in the last edition. In the Asian championship, the silver medal won by Philippines’ Mary Flor Diaz in the category of 135kg which is (60kg+75kg). Another Indian Sneha Soren secured the third position in group B of the women’s 55kg category. She tried to lift 68kg and 71kg weight but failed to lift 73kg in the final grab.

She lifted 93kg in her first attempt but failed to lift 98kg and 100kg in the next attempts. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu set a world record in the clean and jerk category which made her win the Bronze medal on Saturday. She lifted 86kg in grab and set a world record by lifting 119kg in clean and jerk for a total weight of 205kg. This was one of her best performances in the Olympic bound. This is the second medal won by an Indian weightlifter. Jhilli Dalabahera disregarded her last year’s failure where she performed the women 45kg in the National Weighlifting championship on Monday.

Jhilli also participated in a championship of weightlifting held in Vishakhapatnam where she lifted 160kg and defeated M. V. Thusmita after three attempts. She managed to grab a 71kg in the final attempt where she lifted 69kg in the first two attempts with Deepali Gursale from Maharashtra. Deepali failed to grab the 69kg and the race remained between Jhilli and Thushmita. Jhilli failed to lift 93kg in the final grab where Thushmita managed to grab it successfully and won the winning title. In Men’s championship, Shubham Kolekar from Maharashtra won the title

after defeating Gururaja in the men’s 61kg weight category. Gururaja has set a record by lifting 118kg in gran and 119kg in the second aim. This was the national record ever set in this category. Gururaja and Kolekar managed to lift 152kg in the second clean and jerk and also performed in the 157kg weight category to set a new record collection of 272kg. In the men’s championship Youth Olympics Gold medalist Jeremy Lalrinnunga managed to grab a 67kg weight in the first attempt. To know more about this article stay connected to us.
