Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan shared some of the important information about the corona virus on Wednesday. He said, India is among those countries, which took action as soon as information was received about the first case of Coronavirus. He said that on January 7, when the first infected corona in China was identified. The Government of India held a meeting with the experts about the situation on 8 January itself. Health advisory was also released on 17 January.
The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and WHO officials discussed the measures to combat coronavirus through video conferencing. They have zeroed in on WHO’s National Polio Surveillance Network and other field staff to deal with Covid-19. After their talk, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adanom Gebrecius has praised the country’s Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan for an important decision in the war against the Coronavirus.
The meeting was addressed by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Health Minister and Dr. Poonam Khetarpal Singh, Director of WHO’s South East Asia Region. Minister of State for Health Ashwani Kumar Choubey was also present in this meeting. Along with this, more than 1,000 WHO employees including field staff and state officials of polio, tuberculosis and other diseases participated in the meeting.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, ‘The Government of India and WHO together have shown their ability and skills to the whole world. Due to our joint campaign with complete honesty and dedication, we were able to get rid of polio. Today I would like to remind you again of your ability and qualifications. All of you in the field are our surveillance Corona Warriors. With your joint efforts we can defeat Corona and save lives. ‘
He further said that there are at least 400 districts in India where the corona virus has not been able to reach. We have been able to identify all the possible places where the virus has reached and divided the areas based in the severity, marking them with Red, Orange and Green colors. He said, the next 2-3 weeks are very critical as we deal with Corona in India. These measures are indeed needed in order to deal with this pandemic situation in India. Note that the cases in India has reached to 13,171 and the death toll to 432. However, many of the patients have recovered from this novel virus that accounts to 1,734.
