The founding member of the popular funk and American R&B group The Gap Band, Ronnie Wilson passed away at the age of 73. He was one of the founders alongside his brothers, Charlie Wilson and Robert Wilson. According to the sources, the news of his demise was announced by Ronnie’s wife Linda Boulware-Wilson, she said that Ronnie died on Tuesday morning after suffering from a stroke last week.

According to her statement, Boulware-Wilson called him a genius with creating, producing and playing the flugelhorn, trumpet, keyboards, and singing music. It is upsetting news for all the fans of Ronnie. He was popular among his fans a lot and gained massive popularity around the world.

According to the reports, suffered a stroke last week and since then, he was in a semi-coma from which he never recovered. Not only this but the musician had also suffered several strokes over the years. The band rose its fame during the 70s and 80s. The band’s performers grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While, the name of the band was taken as an abbreviation from Greenwood, Archer, and Pine. These are the prominent streets in the Black Tulsa neighborhood which was targeted by a white mob in the 1921 Tulsa race massacre. The Wilson brother grew up blocks away.

The first album of The Gap Band, Magicians Holiday was released in 1974. The biggest record of the band arrived in the early 1980s. Well, Gap Band III from 1980 emphasized “Burn Rubber on Me” while Gap Band IV from 1982 featured in “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” and “Outstanding“. Along with this, the Band also released several albums in the 90s. One of them, Robert Wilson died in 2010 at the age of 53. He was a guitarist, percussion, and vocals.

In the last recent years, Ronnie sued his brother Charlie Wilson, in which Ronnie claimed that his brother was interfering with his plans to create a new touring effort called The New Gap Band. 

The band had sampled with popular hip hop artist such as the Creator, Ice Cube, Mary J. Blige, Brand Nubian, Nas, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy, Tyler and many more. He was a pure soul and a talented artist. Ronnie Wilson will be always remembered by his family and friends.
