A popular performer, entrepreneur, and club owner, Chris Owens sadly passed away at the age of 89. Being a popular personality, Chris Owens was a popular singer, dancer and entertainer whose seven decades as a club owner and Bourbon street performer made her fame among her loved ones around the world. She became a New Orleans icon who gained massive popularity around the world. Unfortunately, the beloved dancer took her last breath on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. The news of Chris’s passing was confirmed by her longtime publicist, Kitsy Adams.
As per Kitsy Adams, Chris Owens died of a heart attack on Tuesday morning in her St. Louis Street Apartment. The French Quarter is the heart of New Orleans, Bourbon Street is the heart of the French Quarter, and since 1856, Chris Owens was the heart of Bourbon Steet. Her passing comes a week before her annual Easter Parade that rolls through the French Quarter. She would have been 90 on October 5 this year. Throughout the early 21st century, Chris has been a French Quarter fixture and celebrity from the start of the 1960s through the early 21st century.
How Did Chris Owens Die?
Chris was well known in Louisiana and throughout the South. She was born on October 5, 1932 in rural Texas. She grew up on a farm and went to Texas Wesleyan College to be a nurse. Chris was born as Christine Joetta Shaw. In 1956, she tied a knot with a car dealer Sol R. Owens and opened a nightclub on St. Louis Street in the French Quarter. Her performance on the stage were a huge draw. The couple sold their home and purchased the building on the corner of St. Louis and Bourbon.
Well, the dancer had worked in the 1962 film The Wacky World of Doctor Morgus. She also produced her first 2003 film, Let’s Ballroom, in which she stars as a wealthy widow who falls in love with her dance instructor. Her death was a big lose for the fans as she was a big personality and gained a huge fan base around the world.
