Disney Movie ‘The Lion King’ Crosses $500 Million Mark With Worldwide Box Office Collection

The Lion King has achieved a new milestone by grossing $500 million within days of its release. The film has collected Rs $460 million within the past weekend from the worldwide box office. The latest Disney movie also rocked the China box office, where it was released last week. The live-action film that showed the bond between the most loved father-son duo, Mufasa and Simba, received ninth-highest global opening of all time as the film opened up with $440 million. More impressively, the film has become the highest weekend grosser for an animated movie.

The Lion King is all set to release in Hong Kong on 25th July, Japan on 9th August and Italy on 21st August. The film was released in four different languages in India — English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. In India, the Disney movie was released on 19th July and received an impressive opening of Rs 13.17 crores ($1.9 million). The film obtained the momentum during the weekend as it raked Rs 22.8 crore ($3.3 million) and Rs 29.22 crore ($4.2 million) on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Jon Favreau’s directorial movie has collected Rs 65.19 crores ($9.4 million) within its first weekend. With the great opening of Rs 13.17 crores, the computer-animated film great visual effects has become Walt Disney’s third-highest opening weekend grosser of all time while Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War is topping the list.
