The main reason behind his death is post-COVID complications and he was admitted to the private hospital in Guwahati. He was 89 years old and survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. The personality is very famous and also received a Padma Shree Award for his outstanding work. Firstly, on 20th May, he tested COVID-19 positive and admitted to the hospital for better treatment. After his condition gone critical the doctor not able to handle it and on Thursday he finally took his last breath.

Apart from this, Bora also served as the faculty member of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. He was the head of the Department of Physics and Agrometeorology when he was retired in 1992.
