Anubhav Sinha’s directorial social-political drama movie Article 15 hit the theatres on June 28, Friday. Fans and film critics are praising Ayushmann for his excellent performance in the movie. The film is receiving good word of mouth that is also affecting the box office collection of the film positively. Despite controversy and threats from some Hindu fringe groups, the movie received a decent opening at the box office; it was released on around 1600 screens. The film received highly positive reviews from film critics along with impressive ratings.
Article 15 is inspired by real-life events like the 2016 Una flogging incident and 2014 Badaun gang-rape and murder of two teenage girls case. The story of the film revolves around Article 15 of the Indian Constitution — Right to equality. The article states that no one shall be discriminated based on caste, religion, race, sex or place of birth. Ayushmann plays the lead role of an IPS officer, who investigate the rape and murder case of two teen girls from a lower-caste community. The movie also features Ronjini Chakraborty, Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta and Manoj Pahwa in the supporting roles.
