In India, around 97,000 children have type 1 diabetes. It is about 32 or lakh children are suffering from this disease in Delhi alone.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system of the body gets destroyed. It destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, and as a result, the children get dependent on the insulin injections for the survival. The exact cause of this disease is still unknown, but there are many myths which surround this disease.
Doctors are now spreading awareness about this disease and asking peoples, not to believe this myth. Modern therapies including glucometers and insulin pumps help to manage the disease. This disease occurs mainly in children, and that is why it is also called as juvenile diabetes. This disease happens when the immune system of a person works against the body killing the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. The life of type 1 diabetic patient become traumatic as there is a regular need for the insulin injections to manage the glucose level in the body.
The diabetic children usually miss their insulin doses when they are in school or with their friends. They fell insecure concerning others due to this disease. People see this type of children as a burden to society and think they will never lead a healthy life.
Type 1 diabetes is caused due to high intake of sugar. When the immune system of the body turns against the own authority by killing the insulin creating pancreatic cells, the glucose which enters the cells does not enter the cells as insulin helps it to open the cells. As a result, the glucose remains in the body resulting in high sugar levels.
