A Philippines air force C-140 aircraft crashed in a southern province on Sunday. The aircraft was carrying troops and incident occured while trying to land on Sunday. There were at least 29 military personnel killed and 50 were rescued from the burning wreckage. The defender Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said that we have continued the rescue process. There were 92 people on inboard, including three pilots and 5 crew members. There were army personnel who were also in the aircraft. We have rescued pilots but they are majorly injured. This was ex-U.S Air force aircraft that was handed to the Philippines as part of military assistance this year. The aircraft crashed while landing on Sunday in Bangkal village in the mountains town of Patukul in Sulu province.
Military officials said that they took the injured ones to the nearest hospital and troops were trying to search for the remaining. There were few soldiers jumping out of the aircraft before it hit the ground. The plane was burned or scattered in pieces in a clearing surrounded by coconut trees. The pictures has shown the tail section of the plane. The aircraft was transporting troops. Many of the soldiers were newly trained from the southern Cagayan de Pro city for development in Sulu. The cause of crash is not declared yet.
The Regional military commander Lt Gen Corleti Vinluan said that it seems like the aircraft caught fire and crashed in the periphery of the airport. There were four villagers on the ground who got seriously injured. They said that ‘It’s very unfortunate. The plane missed the runway and it was trying to regain power but failed and crashed’. The air force official said that the Jolo runway is shorter than most of the runways in the country. So it made it difficult for pilots to adjust and they missed the spot. air force official didn’t disclose any other information. They said that the weather was clear in Siulu although other areas of the Philippines were experiencing rains due to an approaching tropical depression. The airport of Sulu is located a few kilometres from a mountainous area. The US and Philippines blacklisted Abu Sayyaf as a terrorist organisation for bombings ransom kidnapping and beheadings.
